Pasta is one of those dishes that always sound good. Whether you like spicy arrabbiata or just simple creamy tomato sauce, there really is an entree for everyone. These meals are also easy to whip up, even if you're not an experienced chef. Most of the time you can just grab your favorite jar of sauce from the grocery store and toss it in with some good dried, boxed noodles. However, with the wide variety of pasta sauce options available, it can be hard to pick the best one.
Hoping to make that decision a little easier for the consumer, celebrity chef Tom Colicchio has entered the chat. The "Top Chef" judge grew up in New Jersey with an Italian-American background, so he certainly knows a thing or two about incredible pasta meals. The restauranteur told Yahoo! that when he was a kid, every Sunday, his family would come together to make "Sunday gravy," which was a type of traditional, tomato-based sauce. So, when The Jersey Tomato Co. was looking for a new partner to take its brand to the next level, Colicchio seemed like the perfect fit.
Decadent pasta sauces with robust flavor
Colicchio took this new partnership seriously, creating six new pasta sauces that feature ingredients that are unique to different regions of Italy, per a press release. Each variety of sauce is made with vine-ripened tomatoes from New Jersey, which are known for their rich flavor. They are also gluten-free, contain low sodium, and have no added sugars or artificial preservatives. The Colicchio Collection ranges from a sauce created with lemon, white wine, and provencal herbs (Liguria) to one that features eggplant, zucchini, and chiles (Calabria).
"I wanted to capture the exciting variety of cuisines throughout Italy in a collection that home cooks could use to elevate and enhance their everyday cooking," Colicchio explained. "The inherent brightness and balance of these sauces allows the regional ingredients to shine through, taking stews, braised and grilled meats, seafood, even pizza to another level of flavor and vibrancy."
